The Challenge
Organizations face the task of provisioning their users to Cloud services, while administratively managing user changes, such as people leaving or joining the firm, names changes, and more. The Cloud environment allows for this to be done manually through its administrative environment, however, the time required quickly becomes impractical once the size of a company reaches more than a couple hundred users.
The Solution
The client evaluated alternatives and elected to use IBM Connections Cloud services. These services offer the advantage of not having the cost or management burden of maintaining the applications on premise, and new enhancements are automatically deployed on a frequent basis without IT or end user involvement. Mercury assisted with the integration into their employee directory workflow, capturing the employee information and subsequent changes, and then securely transmitting this information in the required format into the Cloud service’s integration point.
The Results
- The client was able rapidly provision users to the Cloud service on their schedule and not be constrained by manual methods
- Further changes such as new users, newly inactive users, name changes, etc., are captured from the directory workflow and transmitted to the Cloud environment, allowing the provisioned Cloud users to closely mirror their base of active employee
- Users were provisioned according to a plan and schedule that made sense for the organization, alleviating the manual constraints of provisioning Cloud users, as well as expediting the employee adoption and benefits of the applications
