The Client
An east coast based, regional shipping firm needing to retire their legacy on premise IBM Notes Domino messaging and collaboration, and leverage IBM Connections Cloud deployment for these services.

The Challenge
The organization faced the challenge of migrating the users to the Cloud in an expeditious, well-planned, and minimally disruptive manner.

The Solution
To address this challenge, Mercury was able to help by assessing their existing environment, developing a plan to prepare for and transition users to the Cloud and tactical remediation of any issues that arose post migration. In addition, Mercury was able to help introduce and train key persons on the collaboration tools so they could be used in place of a legacy application. In parallel, the client and Mercury were able to leverage a transitioning scheme to move their legacy software licensing and support to a newer Cloud subscription, keeping software and subscription cost constant through this process.

The Results

  • The client was able to retire their legacy messaging, collaboration, and anti-virus/anti-spam servers
  • The client was able to successfully transition their users to Cloud delivered messaging and collaboration services
  • These services offer the advantage of not having the cost or the management burden of maintaining the applications on premise, and new enhancements are automatically deployed on a frequent basis without IT or end user involvement
  • The client was able to leverage Cloud collaboration tools to replace and retire an in-house developed application, supporting one of their departments
